The town began in 1142 with the settlement of the first Cistercian Monastary in Bohemia. By 1260 German miners began to mine for silver in the mountain region, which they named Kuttenberg, and which was part of the monastery property. The name of the mountain is said to have arrived from the miners workclothes garb (the Kutten).

Shrek is a 2001 computer-animated American comedy film starring the voices of Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, and John Lithgow. Shrek lives in an Ogre Swamp. The swamp, like any other swamp, is green and murky. The swamp contains small and big ponds of muddy water and also has geysers that squirt out mud.
